Nunavut Planning Commission Approves Broad Land Use Planning Policies, Objectives, and Goals for the Nunavut Settlement Area

The Nunavut Planning Commission (NPC), working in conjunction with the Federal, Territorial Governments and Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated has finalized the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement Section 11.4.1(a) requirement to establish broad planning policies, objectives and goals for the Nunavut Settlement Area (NSA).

The 11.4.1(a) framework, approved November 10, 2007 will be used as a guide to support the land use planning activities of the NPC for the management of all land, fresh water, marine areas, the outer land fast ice zone and natural resources, including wildlife lying outside of municipal boundaries in the NSA.

The Commission would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the dedication of their staff, the Government of Nunavut Cabinet and Departments, Federal Government Departments and Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated involved in completion of this historic milestone document.

The NPC looks forward to working with all of its planning partners on the future land use planning initiatives of the Commission.

  • Goal 1 - Strengthening Partnership and Institutions
  • Goal 2 - Protecting and Sustaining the Environment
  • Goal 3 - Encouraging Conservation Planning
  • Goal 4 - Building Healthy Communities
  • Goal 5 - Encouraging Sustainable Economic Development
